ESPO Conference Regatta 2021: Five good reasons to sail off with us on 25-28 May 2021

30 April 2021

From 25 to 28 May, the ESPO Conference will be sailing towards you, from the South to the North of Europe. The ESPO Conference Regatta 2021 will be starting in the Port of Valencia on 25 May. From there it will sail off to North Sea Port on 26 May and finish in the Port of Oslo on 28 May, our last port of call.

The theme of the ESPO Conference Regatta 2021 is “Europe’s ports at the crossroads of transitions”. Together with the port industry, businesses, academics and, last but not least, EU policy makers, we will discuss the future of Europe’s ports as driving forces of a strong and resilient European economy and society.

For those who are still making up their minds, here are five good reasons to join us for this special event:

The theme: Europe’s ports at the crossroads of transitions: The health and related economic crisis the world is going through, combined with the green and digital transitions, mean a major transformation of Europe’s economy and society. This is probably the perfect storm for Europe’s ports and port industry. Being at the crossroads of these transitions, Europe’s seaports can play a crucial role in preparing Europe’s economy and society for a strong and resilient future. The Conference Regatta will be touching on all of these game changers and aims to offer a unique platform for exchange of views and solutions. There is so much to talk about!

An impressive line-up of top speakers and experts: More than forty speakers are already confirmed: Adina VĂLEAN, EU Transport Commissioner; Caroline DE GRUYTER, Columnist and European Affairs Correspondent; Bart KUIPERS, Erasmus Centre for Urban, Port and Transport Economics; Indra VONCK, Deloitte; Peter DE LANGEN, Ports & Logistics Advisory; Josep-Vicent BOIRA, Commissioner of the Spanish Government for the Mediterranean Corridor; Kris PEETERS, Vice President of the EIB; Kurt BODEWIG, Motorways of the Sea Coordinator; Henrik HOLOLEI, Director General EC, DG MOVE; Members of the European Parliament Inmaculada RODRÍGUEZ-PINERO, Magdalena ADAMOVICZ, Andris AMERIKS, Caroline NAGTEGAALJohan VAN OVERTVELDT, and Kathleen VAN BREMPT; Bart BIEBUYCK, Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking; Knut Arild HAREIDE, Norwegian Minister of Transport; Clara DE LA TORRE, Deputy Director General DG CLIMA; Bjørn HAUGLAND, Skift - Business Climate Leaders; Carlo RAUCCI, Lloyd's Register; Lars Erik MARCUSSEN, HeidelbergCement North Europe; Cécile NOURIGAT, UPEI; Bernard VANHEULE, Costa Group; Valter SELÉN, ESPO.

3° Hear what Europe’s ports have to say: we cannot talk about ports without hearing the ports: this year as well, an impressive amount of high-level port professionals will share their views and experiences with the audience: entering the debate are Annaleena MÄKILÄ, ESPO Chair and Finnish Port Association; Zeno D’AGOSTINO, Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea; Eamonn O'REILLY, Dublin Port Company; Stéphane RAISON, HAROPA; Allard CASTELEIN, Port of Rotterdam; Daan SCHALCK, and Astrid VLIEBERGH, North Sea Port; Heidi NEILSON and Ingvar MATHISEN, Port of Oslo; Stéphane REICHE, Marseille Fos Port Authority; Aurélio MARTÍNEZ ESTÉVEZ, Juan Manuel DIEZ OREJAS, and Raúl CASCAJO, Port Authority of Valencia; Ville HAAPASAARI, Port of Helsinki; Edvard MOLITOR, Port of Gothenburg; and Tom WILLIS, Shoreham Port.

The exceptional format: This year ESPO is going for a unique format; ESPO will take you on trip through Europe without you leaving your seat! The Conference Regatta 2021 is mainly planned as an online event. You can easily choose to attend the whole conference or only one day. ESPO also provides an interesting family rate if five or more people from the same port or organisation register. If the situation improves enough to allow it, the three hosting ports will do their utmost to set up a limited in-person attendance and/or in-person networking event. But there is more: ESPO Conferences are more than just a conference. And this year, we’ll find ways to make you move and – why not – have a good moment ;-) Stay tuned!

The hosts: Port of Valencia, North Sea Port and Port of Oslo are the three fantastic hosts of this Conference Regatta and they are showing the best of themselves to offer all speakers and delegates an exceptional platform for discussion. You do not want to miss this!
